Lake of the Ozarks

The Ozarks  are a  highland region of the central United States. It covers much of the southern half of Missouri and an extensive portion of northwestern and north central Arkansas. Nicknamed the "magic dragon", the Lake of Ozarks is a serpentine shaped reservoir created by Osage river in the northern part of the Ozarks Mountains.

The Lake of the Ozarks state Park is a 17,500 Acres of land along the Grand Glaize Arm of the lake created in in 1946, and is the largest State Park in Missouri.

The park includes 85 miles (137 km) of shoreline on the lake (which has a total of 1,150 miles (1,850 km) of shoreline—mostly privately owned); two swimming beaches with imported sand, 12 trails, the Ozark Caverns, a boat launch, and the Lee C. Fine Memorial Airport which has a 6,500-foot (2,000 m) runway. In addition there are campsites and cabins within the park.

We travelled to the Lake of Ozarks this weekend(9/15/2012), from St. Louis. we had hired two rental cars from Alamo. Kishore, KP and our families were the travellers. Kids were a bit uncontrollable as usual however, once we started our sojourn, they were all right.

With 2 year olds we did not stress it out too much. we had carried our food and had some raw food for grilling too. Kishore had packed Coal and other stuff for grilling. Divya had marinated the chicken and fish. Nisha took some corn, onions and some sweet potatoes. We also packed, juice, bread, nuts, fruits, water etc.

We started from St Louis at around 8:00 Am and our first destination was the HAHA Tonka State Park, Camdenton, MO. We reached at the visitor center which had a place which had a model of the mountain ridges and the attractions. There were photos of it on the walls. The attractions were connected by roads and also there were options for swimming, fishing, Camping, etc.

The area has several caves, sinkholes, and bluffs overlooking the lake. It is a prominent example of karst topography, which is geological formation shaped by the dissolution of a layer or layers of soluble bedrock. The most notable feature of the park is the stone ruins of a mansion, nicknamed the "castle," because it was modeled after later European castles from the 1500s.

The Following Link takes you to the details about the park.

As I said earlier, we travelled with kids and did not hasten our trip. We visited the Natural Bridge and it looked awesome in the woods. Then we went on to the trail to the glade looking to have some nice pics of the children.
